Qualified & running for the 56!

Of course, Ellie was the most stylish person in the hall. And while my name is the one on the ballot, none of this would be possible with her support and hard work. The decision to run for office was one we made together after lots of fact finding, some challenging conversations, and a fearless SWOT analysis we’re still talking about. We’re doing this for our kids—and yours!—after all and parenting is a two-person job. I’m glad to have her on my team. Photo by the incomparable Mo Pippin on the South Gallery steps.

Monday, while our legislators were busy in session, Ellie, my campaign team, and I popped down to the Capitol and officially qualified to run for Georgia state Senate district 56! Woot!

Given that I started my campaign for the 56 several months ago, this announcement may seem oddly timed. And, while it’s true, I submitted my Declaration of Intent with the State Ethics Commission back in June of 2023, this week is what make our campaign ballot-official!

Over the course of this week—Qualifying Week—ambitious office-seekers (like me!) will crowd the Capitol’s South Gallery to flash IDs and file paperwork to run for any of Georgia’s 14 US House seats and 236 General Assembly spots! It’s a process that combines the anxious excitement of air travel with the bureaucratic tedium of … air travel. 😊

But it was great day! While we waited for my turn to qualify, the team and I met some really great folks in line—a veteran and her son who’d driven all the way up from Brunswick to qualify for a House race; whole families who came out to cheer for their kids, parents, and friends as they emerged from the Democratic or Republican offices off the gallery; and, of course, the amazing folks from the Cherokee County Democrats who turned out to cheer for candidates fighting to bring better representation to our ATL burbs (like me)!

I had the chance to film some of the experience and even did some interviews under the Gold Dome, so keep your eyes out for some behind-the-scenes video, coming soon.

And if you’re able, please consider contributing to our campaign—or to whomever you support on either side of the aisle. It takes money, attention, and talent to bring change to any level of government and no one who qualifies can do it alone.

JD JORDAN FOR GEORGIA STATE SENATE DISTRICT 56

For anyone in East Cobb, Roswell, or Woodstock alarmed by the state’s escalating attacks on our bodies, our families, our doctors’ offices, our classrooms and libraries, even our polling places, I’m running for state senate district 56 to fight for our freedoms and to deliver a better future for everyone in Georgia.

And unlike my opponent who’s spent 14 years rolling back our freedoms, failing to safeguard our kids, and gerrymandered his district to stay in office, I promise to bring everyone in the 56—regardless of ideology—the best possible constituent experience so you feel heard, valued, and supported. As we all deserve to be.

I’m running for the 56. Let’s make a better Georgia for all of us.
