Let’s bring a growth mindset to Georgia’s State Senate.

There was something profoundly meditative about hammering metal on an anvil. It requires more precision and attention than strength. And the margin for injury was relatively high, as my inevitable burn reminded me. Photo by Sarah Grant.

Folks have asked me how I think I’m qualified to run for State Senate. I have two answers:

Firstly, I’m already a professional problem solver. As a digital product designer, I employ a professional empathy to solve user problems while aligning those solutions with business needs. This design-thinking process is profoundly applicable to the business of state.

Secondly, I have a growth mindset and believe you’re never too old to learn new things. In fact, I’m eager to.

In that vein, I’ve asked a few of my children and friends to help me demonstrate my enthusiasm and open-mindedness to learning new things.

For instance, how did a 47-year-old father of five who did swim team in middle school miss learning how to dive? Who knows! But my son Malcolm (14yo)—who has swum with the Roswell Rapids and just made the team at Roswell High—is a great teacher!

Or how might someone who works extensively with digital products take to the timeless process of blacksmithing? With enthusiasm and the help of local author Alex White, who thankfully has a fabulous forge right here in Roswell!

There’s no shortage of new things any of us can tackle. Even as we head into this final week before the election, my son Jack (16yo) is trying to teach me how to play Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here”. And hopefully next week, I’ll be learning how to collaborate with 55 other State Senators to bring you a better Georgia.

Let’s learn new things!

JD JORDAN FOR GEORGIA STATE SENATE DISTRICT 56

For anyone in East Cobb, Roswell, or Woodstock alarmed by the state’s escalating attacks on our bodies, our families, our doctors’ offices, our classrooms and libraries, even our polling places, I’m running for State Senate district 56 to fight for our freedoms and to deliver a better future for everyone in Georgia.

And unlike my opponent who’s spent 14 years rolling back our freedoms, failing to safeguard our kids, and gerrymandered his district to stay in office, I promise to bring everyone in the 56—regardless of ideology—the best possible constituent experience so you feel heard, valued, and supported. As we all deserve to be.

I’m running for the 56. Let’s make a better Georgia for all of us.
