Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.

This last weekend was another big one in Presidential politics.

On the campaign trail, I often remind voters I’m running for a state office, not a Federal one. That simple distance lets us put Biden and Trump aside and focus on local issues. Rather than argue about the border or Gaza or MTG, we can discuss healthcare access, our local economy, workplace issues, schools, and housing. We can bridge the sometimes-enormous ideological gulf that separates folks in our politically-purple community and focus on the problems we share.

But in an election year, it goes without saying that parties succeed or fail as a team. That the top and the bottom of the ticket drive votes for one another. And I’m wowed and greatly encouraged by the energy President Biden’s recent decision to step out of the national race has already brought to our local contest.

I can’t imagine the mix of emotions the Bidens must be feeling right now. Having only just dipped my toes into politics and having only recently learned how invested the whole family becomes in the campaign, I’m grateful the President stepped up four years ago and I’m in awe at his decision to end his 52-year career.

As Dr Seuss reminds us, “Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.” I tell my kids this a lot. And myself. Because the end of anything can be a challenge, but that doesn’t make it any less important.

Besides, what comes next might be just as exciting.

JD JORDAN FOR GEORGIA STATE SENATE DISTRICT 56

For anyone in East Cobb, Roswell, or Woodstock alarmed by the state’s escalating attacks on our bodies, our families, our doctors’ offices, our classrooms and libraries, even our polling places, I’m running for State Senate district 56 to fight for our freedoms and to deliver a better future for everyone in Georgia.

And unlike my opponent who’s spent 14 years rolling back our freedoms, failing to safeguard our kids, and gerrymandered his district to stay in office, I promise to bring everyone in the 56—regardless of ideology—the best possible constituent experience so you feel heard, valued, and supported. As we all deserve to be.

I’m running for the 56. Let’s make a better Georgia for all of us.
